UK Gambling Commission Considered Suspending Evolution Licence
The UK Gambling Commission considered suspending Evolution’s licence after finding serious problems with its anti-money laundering controls and supply chain checks.
The regulator said Evolution’s live casino games were available on unlicensed gambling websites that could be accessed by UK players. The investigation started in December 2024 after the Commission found that the supplier’s games were being offered by operators without a UK licence.
According to the regulator, Evolution games appeared on six unlicensed websites run by two third-party operators between December 2023 and November 2024. The Commission also found problems with the company’s AML risk assessments and customer due diligence procedures.
Gambling Commission director of enforcement John Pierce stated:
This investigation exposed serious weaknesses in Evolution’s AML risk assessment and its oversight of risks within its supply chain.
The regulator said the failures were serious enough for it to consider suspending Evolution’s licence. However, this did not happen because the company reacted quickly after being informed about the issue.
Evolution blocked UK access to the affected websites and introduced additional controls across its European operations during 2025.
The company later agreed to a £4.75 million settlement with the Gambling Commission. It must also complete an independent audit of its UK licence within the next year and cover investigation costs.
Evolution CEO Martin Carlesund said:
There are no changes in our way of doing things in the UK for a while, and we have no changes coming up.
