Buenos Aires Introduces 2% Levy on Online Slot Prizes
Buenos Aires Province will introduce a 2% tax withholding on prizes from online slot games offered by licensed gambling operators.
The measure will apply only to immediate-resolution games available through the seven online betting platforms authorised in the province: bet365, Betano, Betsson, Betwarrior, bPlay, Sport.bet.ar and Stake.
Operators will be responsible for withholding the tax and filing weekly sworn statements to confirm the deductions made from player winnings.
The provincial government said the contribution is already covered by existing legislation. Revenue collected through the measure will go to the Social Progress and Inclusion Fund, known as FOPIS.
The funds will support healthcare, education and social development programmes. Part of the revenue will also be used for gambling addiction prevention and assistance policies.
Carlos Bianco, Government Minister, explained:
Our estimates are that, through this new contribution, the province will receive an additional ARS 35 billion ($23 million) to ARS 40 billion ($26.5 million) every month.
The new measure was announced by the Buenos Aires Province government on September 10, 2026.
