Spain to Launch Shared Online Gambling Deposit Limits in March 2027

Spain has started testing a central system that will limit how much players can deposit across licensed online gambling platforms. The Directorate General for Gambling Regulation (DGOJ) launched testing on October 21, 2026, with full implementation scheduled for March 26, 2027.
The system will apply combined deposit limits of €700 per day, €1,750 per week and €3,300 over four weeks. Unlike existing restrictions, these limits will cover all accounts held by the same player across licensed operators.
Once a player reaches a limit, gambling operators must block further deposits. Players can reduce their limits immediately, while increases or removals require a three-working-day waiting period.
The DGOJ also introduced a free Player Portal where users can check their deposits, winnings, losses and registered gambling accounts. The platform will support personal alerts and deposit limit management.
Industry association Jdigital has questioned the proportionality of the new restrictions, noting that around 80% of online players use only one operator.
Meanwhile, the regulator has raised concerns about operators’ progress in connecting to the system.
Mikel Arana, Director General of the DGOJ, commented:
It is surprising that at this stage operators have still not effectively and generally connected to the system.
Licensed operators must complete integration and explain the new deposit limits to players before the March 2027 deadline.
