Alberta Launches iGaming Market With 22 Platforms
Alberta officially opened its regulated online gambling market on July 13, 2026, with 22 approved casino and sportsbook platforms going live on the first day.
The launch made Alberta the second Canadian province after Ontario to introduce a regulated market with multiple private operators.
The opening list included bet365, BetMGM, Caesars, DraftKings, FanDuel, BetRivers, TonyBet and theScore. The government-owned Play Alberta platform also remains available.
Provincial officials said around 70% of online gambling activity in Alberta previously took place on unregulated offshore websites. The new system is designed to move players toward approved operators with stronger consumer protection rules. Dale Nally explained:
Our focus has been clear from the start: to protect Albertans, especially young people, and ensure that those who choose online gaming can do so in a safe and responsible environment.
Approved operators must provide age checks, deposit limits, time limits and self-exclusion tools.
Operators will pay 20% tax on net revenue. Part of the market income will also support First Nations programs and responsible gambling initiatives.
Another 28 approved brands had not launched by July 13, which means the market could expand further in the coming months.
