Florida AG Targets Big Tech Over Sweepstakes Casino Advertising

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has sent letters to Google, Meta, Reddit, Snap and TikTok over advertisements for online sweepstakes casinos.

The companies have until October 23, 2026, to explain what measures they have taken to stop ads for platforms including Stake, Chumba Casino, LuckyLand and Global Poker from reaching Florida residents.

The move follows lawsuits in Florida against sweepstakes operators and related payment companies. Uthmeier argues that the platforms operate without state gambling licences while offering games such as slots, blackjack, roulette and poker.

James Uthmeier, Florida attorney general, stressed:

Promoting illegal gambling is a crime. Big Tech has until October 23 to confirm it has stopped advertising sites like Stake, Chumba, LuckyLand, and Global Poker in Florida.

Uthmeier also raised concerns about the dual-currency model used by many sweepstakes casinos. He alleges that players can use credits for casino-style games and later exchange them for cash, cryptocurrency or gift cards.

The letters do not accuse the technology companies of operating sweepstakes casinos. Instead, Uthmeier’s office is asking whether their advertising services have helped these platforms reach customers in Florida.

Sweepstakes operators are also facing legal challenges in other US states, including Kentucky, New York and Tennessee.
