Swedish Gambling Revenue Rises Slightly in Q1 2026

Sweden’s gambling market posted a small rise in revenue in the first quarter of 2026, mainly because of continued growth in online gambling.
According to the Swedish Gambling Authority, total gambling revenue reached SEK6.68bn, or about €613m, in the three months to the end of March. This was 0.8% higher than in the same period last year. However, the result was still lower than revenue reported in each of the final three quarters of 2025.
Online gambling remained the strongest part of the market. Commercial online gaming, including online casino and sports betting, generated SEK4.44bn in revenue. This was up 3.4% year-on-year and made online gambling by far the largest segment in Sweden.
Other parts of the market had a weaker quarter. Revenue from state lotteries and slot machine gaming fell 3.4% to SEK1.27bn. Games and lotteries linked to public benefit causes also declined, dropping 2.6% to SEK863m.
Land-based commercial gaming, including restaurant casinos, was one of the few areas outside online gambling to grow. Revenue in this segment increased 3.6% to SEK57m.
No revenue was reported from land-based casinos for the third quarter in a row. This followed the closure of the final Casino Cosmopol venue in early 2025.
The regulator also reported growth in self-exclusion. By the end of Q1, almost 138,000 people had registered with Sweden’s Spelpaus.se scheme, up 2.6% from Q4 2025.
